HB 512
I attended a meeting with the Executive Committee of the Northeast Ohio Mayor’s and City Manager’s Association this past week which included the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund Executive Director as we discussed our concern with HB 512. This bill will increase employer contributions from the current rates for Police from 19.5% to 26.5% over the next five years beginning January 1, 2023 and Fire increase from 24% to 26.5% also over the next five years. I asked Finance Director Matt Bubp to provide what the cost associated would be over the next five years and the total (assuming an annual 3% increase for our full time Police and Fire personnel) to be over $156,000. I will continue attending meetings with legislators and fellow city managers and mayors to discuss how this will affect our budgets.
Sewer Jet purchase
I respectfully ask Council to adopt the legislation for the purchase of the Sewer Jet at this meeting so that we can place our order which will give us a delivery in 2023. With the issues with chain supply and demand, we would like to be in line as early as possible for this purchase. Thank you for your consideration.

I am happy to report that the S Main Street paving project bid came in at $324,397.06. The engineer’s estimate was $435,735. The bid for E Ohio came in at $457,518 and the engineer’s estimate was $535,000. The city will receive 80% funding through a federal grant we applied for and received. The lowest and best bidder is Melway Paving. The Eastern Road bid will open on March 29th.
Workshop item for 4/11/2022
We will have a workshop to discuss the proposed plans for a new garage on the Waste Water treatment Plant property. Staff from Engineering Associates and Utilities Director, Mike Brown, will be here for the workshop to answer any questions that Council may have.
